  I would also disagree with this statement. Massive harm was done to my children and and (less so) to me. Because of their "Theocratic Warfare" mindset, many lied to protect an abuser and my children were the victims. In order to protect their abuser they used massive funds from the donations to WT and it's legal department who used unfreindly litigation tactics. It's one thing to be an unfreindly litigator where business is concerned but to do so where children is concerned is more than misguided or radical - in my book it's evil.
  

  As well we know of countless other stories where child abusers and child sexual abusers are protected to the detriment of the children. We also know that JWs are encouraged and infact expected to provide courtroom support for these abusers once again to the detriment of the children. These are not isolated incidents either. This qualifies as harm to me.

  I have met many JWs who are nice people in their day to day activities but once they are called upon by WT legal for their "Theocratic Warfare" they become as hypocritical and malicious as any person without a conscience can be. Fortunately there are some who don't but they often end up being squeezed out (probabaly because they have a conscience) and harmed through shunning.

  Many use deceptive tactics to recruit people and they know darn well they are not providing a full and honest disclosure of "the truth" when they do this. Like the old saying "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive". That is why often harm arises from these cult conversions through deception.

  As for my opinion of the rank and file. Aside from the peodophiles and other abusers in their midst, I don't have a problem with them and think a fair amount of them are generally nice people: Brainwashed, but nice. It all comes down to whether they are willing to lie to protect their "brothers and sisters" and my experience tells me a fair amount of them (enough to make it significant and troubling) unfortunately would.

  That's because of her browser settings. Tell her to go open explorer the click: tools, internet options, advanced (tab), and then scroll down and look for HTTP 1.1 and tell her to put a check in both boxes and then connect to JWD.

  Since there are no ulterior motives here TJ, I have thought about some of your comments. I hope you are able to work through this with the Mrs. I am not sure if I can contribute anything but made the effort anyway.

  I don't agree with the nuances of the above statement.

  I made a comment in an earlier thread that is (in my opinion) more appropriate:

  The truly defining element that indicates love is whether or not a person would be willing to sacrifice their own interests for the betterment of the other.

  If she is asking you to go to meetings, would you be making the sacrifice for her betterment? No, as her position in paradise is irrelevent of whether you attend meetings. If you were to attend, you would not believe anyway and would still be doomed at Armageddon.

  If going to meetings makes you worse off (which you may very well feel) and, in your opinion, you are better off by not going and subjecting yourself to a cult's meetings. She should be willing to accept this for your betterment.

  This is a matter of religious freedom.

  Problem is I find JWs are very indignant if their own religious sovereignty is threatened yet, at the same time, believe they have a right to make attempts to violate others religious sovereignty through threats, coersion, deception, shunning, etc. I find most have been brainwashed to be very selfish in that regard and oblivious to their own hypocracy.

  I do not envy your position TJ. Hopefully her common sense has not been totally obliterated by the WT cult.

  Just because YOU do believe in the bible, and some of it's semi-incoherant ramblings that death will one day be done away with, and that man (what about women schiz or are you sexist too) will finally be able to enjoy life forever, doesn't prove that these things will come to pass. Just because YOU choose to believe that "it is the truth" doesn't prove anything, other than the fact that YOU have high hopes. Just because the time that YOU invested turned out to have been not a waste of energy, in your mind (cough) doesn't prove anything. Yes, YOU are convinced that every non-JW is only wasting their time in not attending meetings and sharing their time a with cult which has a pedophile problem, but YOU being convinced of that doesn't prove that it's so. The fact is, you CAN be mistaken in the way you see things. In fact you ARE mistaken. And what's more, the day will come when you will see that you've been mistaken.

  Are there any other areas you can think of in marriage where a line ought to be drawn and a married person has the "right" to say, "I won't even compromise on that"? To ex-JWs, anything JW related seems to be one of those areas. Wouldn't that then justify her refusal to compromise in other areas?

  No doubt she probably sees it as a small compromise where, for you, it is not a small compromise. Your last comment suggests she is retaliating in some fashion. You have my sympathy my freind because now there is wall building in your marriage.

The reasoning from the platform was in todays unstable war and terror filled world it would be wrong to promote a message of destruction because that is no different than what satans system provides.

  Are you joking us? The world has always been unstable and in fact was more so at it's peak of total and complete global nuclear annihilation during the cold war and especially during the years of the Kennedy administration with the Cuban missle crisis. There is not the same fear of an Armageddon or a total global meltdown like their used to be. Now it is just smaller scale attacks by radical terrorists (still disturbing though).

  With the statement of "it would be wrong to promote a message of destruction because that is no different than what satans system provides." They are essentially admitting that this message would be a Satanic message. It is one thing for them to admit to promoting false prophesies for Armageddon (1975) but to admit to promoting a Satanic message is amazingly stupid on their part.

  My guess is that they are getting very negative reaction from people with their doomsday message especially since 911. If this is not the most hypocritical move they have ever made it certainly ranks right up there near the top. They complain to their members about not listening to apostates but if their members start really listening to the WT they will do more damage than any apostate will ever do. Problem is many are brainwashed or just not very bright.

  Can someone tell me why going to the meetings with my JW wife should be exempt as an area of compromise?

  I feel this is a personal matter. Are you looking for amuniition for arguments sake? Are you hoping to reinforce feelings you already have? I hope these questions don't seem agressive, I just don't really see how any of us can or should comment. If there was manipulation or coersion going on then commentary would make sense but you haven't mentioned that (however knowing JWs it would surprise me if their was not improper coersion). Really it comes down to how strongly you feel on this issue personally. For some it's a small price to pay and for others it's an impossible demand.

  When I was married to my ex, I was not a JW and my ex was inactive for 8 months preceeding our marriage. When her mother had to go up on stage and give one of those BS skits she asked us if we could attend since she was nervous (ya sure) but we went to show family support for her. There were a couple of occasions like that. I certainly could not have made that a regular habit for the same reason I stopped going to Catholic church when I was younger. The stuff bores me out of my mind.
